Kirk Haworth Is Opening Plant-Based Restaurant Plates in Shoreditch

If you’re a Great British Menu fan, you’ll want this restaurant on your radar

For those of you who watch this year’s Great British Menu, you’ll know plenty about Kirk Haworth, but for those of you who haven’t seen him cooking on telly, let us fill you in. He’s worked at top kitchens including The French Laundry, Restaurant Sat Bains, The Square, and Northcote before overhauling his lifestyle to follow a plant-based diet for health reasons.

Along with his sister Keeley, Kirk set up the plant-based and sustainable concept Plates, which has been cooking and residencies and supper clubs since 2017. A winning run on Great British Menu, where he won both the dessert course and the Champion of Champions title has preceded the opening of a permanent Plates restaurant in Shoreditch.

The restaurant will open with two tasting menu options, one at £75 and one at £90, with dishes including:

  • lightly smoked tomatoes, house ricotta, seaweed jam & English strawberry
  • GBM Feast of Farah – mung & urid bean lasagna, charcoal, miso & chive sauce
  • fragrant carrot, pomelo, elderflower pickled kohlrabi, kaffir lime & lemongrass veloute
  • GBM A taste of unity – raw cacao gateaux, sour cherry, coconut blossom ice cream, African pepper, toasted macadamia & raw caramel sauce

The booking system for Plates crashed when it first opened so even though it’s not opening until July, you likely won’t be able to get a table until at least the autumn, so if this is on your hit list, you’ll have some work to do to get in there.

Opens Weds 3rd July 2024
320 Old Street, London EC1V 9DR
