Last Weekend Monkey Shoulder sent us all the way to the magical Lake District to join them at Kendal Calling. Even though the weather decided to make things rather wet, muddy and dull we refused to let it dictate our fun. Voted best medium sized festival in 2013 and celebrating independently insane fun we found Kendal Calling to be just that.
Best bits include chilling (and remaining dry) in the kopparberg tent (sauna), riding the Swing Chairs, failing but trying out the rolla disco, reminiscing at Johnny Borrells new band of Razorlight brothers as he swept through tracks from their debut album, dancing to Happy Mondays in the rain, immersive theatre that warped our mind, eating one of the best burgers we’ve ever tasted from Burger Bear who we’ll be back with news on soon. 2 Many DJ’s smashed it in a ram packed sweaty tent, Athlete transported us back in time again and well the spirit of a northern festival manages to lift your mood even when the odds are against you. Kendal calling we thank you.
Now, we probably spent a lot of our time drinking cocktails…we did, we definitely did do that. Monkey Shoulder introduced us to some of their signature cocktails and a few weird and wonderful concussions. Highly passionate and creative the guys behind the brand are doing some exciting things, one of which is their Ultimate Bartender Challenge at Shoreditch Studios on 18th September where two bars will compete in the same space to win a pop-up bar held during London Cocktail Week.
