keep running with meetup

The London Marathon is over for another year – massive congratulations to everyone who completed it – but if you need some motivation to keep running (or to actually start), Runaway Adventures has the answer. The running group is a part of MeetUp, a company that connects real people in real life to create communities around a whole host of interests and ideas (like running…in fact 95,000 people are running in London via Meetup in 490 groups).

Founded by Chris Bradley, Runaway Adventures takes people on simple and scenic guided trail runs within an hour of central London. Chris has shared some of his fave running routes in the capital, with some brunch recommendations at the end in case you need that little extra incentive.

Hampstead Heath

This 6.2km/4 mile run starts from outside Parliament Hill Lido, loops around the heath hitting some great viewpoints and then ends at back at Parliament Hill Cafe. A great one for beginners.

See the route here.

Epping Forest

Head to Chingford station, one stop up from Walthamstow, for this 15km/9.5 mile route through Epping Forest. Starting near Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge, the loop ends at back near the station at The Larder at Butlers Retreat.

See the route here.

Richmond Park / Thames Path

See the whole of Richmond Park on this 10km/6.2 mile loop, which begins at Richmond station before heading down past Pembroke Lodge, underneath Isabella Plantation and back up to end at Colicci Cafe.

River Lea

The River Lea runs out from Stratford for about 40 miles so this is a great run to make as long or short as you want, with both pubs and train stations every 5km. Start at Tottenham Hale station and then run as far through the Lea Valley Park and Hertfordshire as you like, with end points including Cheshunt (14km), Broxbourne (18.6km), Rye House (23km), St Margarets (25km), Ware (28.8km) and Hertford East (32km).

See the route here.

They also have a run in Saunderton in the Chiltern Hills, just 40 minutes from Marylebone, coming up in May if you fancy escaping the city.
