Try your hand at everything from powerlifting to Pilates
Elephant & Castle destination Castle Square is known for being a cultural and culinary hub, home to a range of food, drink, fashion and service traders, but this summer it’s also becoming a fitness and wellbeing haven. On Sat 19th July, the area will play host to Elefit, with a packed programme of health-focused activities.
Ex-England goalkeeper David James is collaborating with Castle Square on the event, hosting a child-friendly skills session to help nurture the next wave of footballing talent. There’ll also be workshops suitable for all ages and abilities, including Pilates with Tempo 301, powerlifting with Fort CrossFit, an Afrobeat dance session, beginner-friendly Qigong Flow, and Latin American aerobics. Silverfit, the charity that promotes active lifestyles among older adults, will also lead a Nordic walking session in Elephant Park and a 30-minute yoga and stretching session.
It wouldn’t be a Castle Square event without some food and drink, so you’ll be able to refuel during Elefit with Caribbean food from Kaieteur Kitchen Original and Original Caribbean Spice; suya from Daddy O’s Suya Spot; udon soup and deep-fried cauliflower from CheeMc; and tofu skewers and steamed noodles from Murger Han. You’ll be able to eat and spectate from the various picnic tables and decorative tents on the square, and if you want to exercise your mind as well as your body, you can take part in a writing workshop.

And the fun doesn’t stop with Elefit as The Elephant is launching in Elephant and Castle in 2026. With over 50 shops, numerous restaurants and cafes, a new cinema, almost 500 new homes for rent, an upgraded tube station, and a new campus for UAL’s London College of Communication, the major new destination will be the biggest new shopping centre in London since Battersea Power Station. Exciting times ahead for SE17.
