Here’s Johnny!
Johnny Boy’s, the new spot from Facing Heaven founder Julian Denis, has just opened in Stoke Newington. Bringing a little corner of SoCal retro sunshine to north London, Johnny Boy’s is inspired by the kind of places Julian grew up on – those gloriously everyday spots run by largely immigrant communities in LA and Southern California serving up hearty, comfort food to the local neighbourhood. It’s a super cool spot, leaning fully into the retro stylings of 80s Americana, with bright orange tiles and booths, old Coca Cola signs, vintage posters of the LA Dodgers and old glass lampshades.
Eat This
Wear your stretchy pants as Johnny Boy’s is an all out feast. Top picks for us included the fried zucchini with jalapeño ranch, the cheeseburger, and the pastrami sandwich – we loved how the pastrami was really thinly sliced instead of in thick chunks.
We were also digging the super crispy fried chicken, served with macaroni salad and a Hawaiian roll, and of course we had to get the deluxe breakfast plate of bacon, sausage, hash browns and fried egg. Fry up for dinner? We are here for it.

Drink This
Bottles of Modelo, cans of PBR, and margaritas all the way baby.
Why Go
This one is a real labour of love and it shows. From the design to the dishes, we can see ourselves spending a lot of time with Johnny Boy this summer.
