JOE ALLEN IS BACK WITH A SWANKY NEW BAR

The New York themed restaurant Joe Allen is returning to Covent Garden with a new drinking den for theatre goers. After an 18 month long hiatus, the restaurant has been sorely missed from London’s broadway capital. During their closure, fine dining and cocktail bar experts Russell Norman and Gary Lee have been busy putting together Joe’s Bar, a dark walnut counter situated at the front of the restaurant. Gary’s experience as an executive head chef at the Ivy and Russell’s previous 10 years of experience at Joe Allen makes them a duo to be reckoned with.

Pre and post-theatre drinkers can expect classics old and new like the Jerry Thomas manhattan – an original recipe dating back to 1884, bone-dry gin martinis, bitter negronis, and the legendary Joe Allen margarita. If Russell’s boozy concoctions have got you craving some salt, there are plenty of substantial bar snacks to choose from including parmesan and marmite cheese straws; steak tartare toasts and potato cigars with truffled blue cheese; and Russell’s signature truffled egg toast, a bubbling slice of doorstop white bread with an egg yolk centre, smothered in melted Fontina cheese and infused with truffle oil. Russell Norman says “Joe’s Bar at Joe Allen is the bar I always wanted to find in London but never could. Somewhere with sexy lighting, effortless style, friendly service, live piano and great classic and revival cocktails“.
