not often we’re sent to an unnamed location in Clapham, find a secret door in the wall to go through and are transported up stairs adorned with vines only to have one of the best nights ever, so we’d have to say Jimmy Garcia’s latest pop-up, The Secret Garden, gets a real big thumbs up from us.

The restaurant is set within an enchanted garden with plants decorating the walls and a giant tree taking centre stage to keep in with the theme. The menu is designed to be shared with countless small dishes all with the finest seasonal produce Jimmy can get his hands on. The ‘Peas and Love’- a pea and mint mousse with Neal’s Yard goat curd, hazelnut crumb and lemon- was the unexpected hit and ‘Papa G’s Chorizo’ risotto was homely, hearty and delish. But the best part of the night was undoubtedly the grill brought right to the table to have our very own DIY BBQ. A potential hazard? Possibly. But full marks for novelty cooking? YES.

For desserts we had the lot- The Edible Garden (a chocolatey-cakey concoction), the Earl Grey Bergamot lemon tart and the Strawberries & Cream. We washed the whole meal down with Dillusion cocktails (gin, elderflower, lemon and cucumber).  The Secret Garden  is one place that definitely shouldn’t remain a secret.
