JIKONI IS THE UK’S FIRST INDEPENDENT RESTAURANT TO GO CARBON NEUTRAL

Ravinder Bhogal’s Marylebone restaurant Jikoni, which bills itself as a ‘no borders kitchen’ thanks to its South Asian, Middle Eastern and East African influences, will be carbon neutral by the end of June, making it the first independent restaurant in the UK to achieve that status. The likes of Wahaca, Frenchie and the Regency Club are already certified as carbon neutral and with Jikoni showing that the indies can also do it, we hope more will follow. Bhogal and her husband Nadeem Lalani Nanjuwany have partnered with Climate Neutral to get that certification, which has also involved switching suppliers to local sustainable businesses, using biodynamic farm Waltham Place for further ingredient sourcing, and working with First Mile to turn non-recyclable waste into green energy.

To celebrate, Ravinder is bringing together female fashion founders and entrepreneurs who share a passion for sustainability for a one-off five-course dinner and panel talk on 27th June. Fashion broadcaster Mimma Viglezio will be hosting the talk featuring Lauren Grant of British shirt company S.A.R.K; Rosh Mahtani of Aligheri Jewellery; Anna Foster of E.L.V Denim; and By Rotation’s Eshita Kabra, and you can get tickets for that here.
