Likemany, a busy London lifestyle means you’re often stuck when it comes to preparing a meal when at home. Not enough time, got nothing in and haven’t the imagination at the end of the day to create something other than beans on toast. That’s where Jessica’s Recipe Bag comes in… a fresh food bag delivery service that ships fresh ingredients straight to your door along with recipe cards of how to prepare, cook and enjoy.
This last week we’ve tried and tested to see how it went. To be honest, it was blood good fun. Most famously know for our mean fish finger sarnie our cooking skills were put to the test – ‘do you peel shallots?’ we shouted to an empty household. The bag arrives and it’s crammed with food of colourful fruits, vegetables, meats, pasta, sauces, spices, dips, cheese, herbs and it’s all a bit THIS IS AWESOME….just look at the fridge, it’s full!
We followed three recipes (should have been four but we freestyled) making prawn fritters with asparagus and new potatoes, lamb meatball tagine with giant couscous and carbonara with courgette and peas. Following the recipe is easy, there’s not pages of instructions or special techniques or language, it’s simple, to the point, direct and pretty damn satisfying.

Carbonara with courgette and peas
The result a meal prepared and cooked in a fairly quick time – they vary according to dish and skills. BUT the quality of the food…immense people. ‘This is some Come Dine with Me sh*t right here’ is what one happy eater commented. It’s surprising that all three dishes we cooked, from scratch with no help and minimal cooking experience turned out to be so damn good. It’s also sparked an interest for more…
