Jeremy O. Harris Is Bringing Slave Play to London and Kit Harington Is Starring

The most Tony Award-nominated play of all time is coming to the capital

Following an initial staging at New York Theatre Workshop in 2018, Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play transferred to Broadway the following year and went on to receive a record 12 nominations at the 74th Tony Awards. Now the production is making its UK premiere at the Noël Coward Theatre this summer with Robert O’Hara on directing duties.

The play is a controversial examination of identity, race and sexuality in 21st century America and has been criticised as well as lauded. Slave Play follows three interracial couples who try to revive their relationships by attending an ‘antebellum sexual performance therapy’ workshop, which involves role-playing being on a plantation. Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington is starring in the London transfer, alongside Fisayo Akinade, Olivia Washington, and Aaron Heffernan, with James Cusati-Moyer, Chalia La Tour, Annie McNamara and Irene Sofia Lucio reprising their roles from the original Broadway production.

Tickets go on sale on 28th February and each week more than 200 tickets will be available for £1 and above in a pay-what-you-can lottery. There’ll also be two BLACK OUT nights during the run, on 17th July and 17th September, where the show will be performed for an “all-Black-identifying audience”.  And if you want more theatre updates like this, sign up to our theatre newsletter here.
