We heard recently that the popular fast food chain Yakiniku Like was opening its first location in Soho, and now another Japanese barbeque spot is about to launch just around the corner. Specialising in yakitori and yakiniku, High Yaki will land in Newport Place next month with a name that hints at what will be the restaurant’s signature presentation of the ready-to-grill meats – on a wooden ‘staircase’.
The menu will feature a range of meats and fish – including dry-aged wagyu, different beef cuts and offal – which diners will cook themselves on a personal grill in the middle of the table. The theme is set to be traditional Japanese cuisine with a western twist and theatrical presentation.
The launch comes as the latest concept from restaurateur Alex Xu who just opened hand-pulled noodle spot Kung Fu Noodle, also in Chinatown. It’s also part of a recent flurry of barbeque spots in and around Soho and Chinatown – so we’re going to be spoiled for choice.
