The cult ramen joint is coming across the pond for good
After searching for somewhere to eat at the weekend, we came across a listing for Ivan Ramen in Clerkenwell on Google Maps and it looks legit – there’s a UK website that says the place is opening this November.
Thanks to an appearance on Chef’s Table, Ivan Ramen has become one of the most famous ramen joints in the world but owner Ivan Orkin was already making waves before Netflix put him on screen. After opening a ramen shop in Tokyo that became one of the best in the city, a massive accomplishment for a foreigner, Ivan returned to the US in 2012 to open a restaurant in NYC and his place has remained popular ever since.
Ivan was in London at the start of the year for a two-month residency at Kaia at The Ned, where he was serving an exclusive menu featuring bowls like Tori Shoyu Wonton Men (chicken broth, soy tare, chicken breast ‘chashu’, chicken wontons, yu choy and thin rye noodles) and Lobster Mazemen (lobster broth, lobster poached in ginger-scallion butter, fried shallots, katsuobushi salt, thick rye noodles and optional caviar add-on).
If you missed The Ned pop-up, fear not because Ivan is coming back to the capital for good. His 26-seater spot will serve all the faves, including tonkotsu, chicken paitan, spicy miso ramen, kara-age chicken, and a London exclusive, a salt beef bao filled with alt beef, pickled cucumbers and karashi mustard mayo.
