Irish Singing Pub Molly Mc’s Is Opening in Southwark

It’s coming from the same team behind Mc & Sons in Borough and Vauxhall

The Mc & Sons Group, founded by Irish brothers John and Ryan Mc Elhinney alongside their father Jack, has already brought Irish pub culture to south London with their Mc & Sons boozers. Now the team is expanding with a third venue, Molly Mc’s, set to open in Southwark this spring and it’ll be a must visit, especially for trad music fans.

Inspired by grandmother Mary Mc Elhinney, known as Molly (who opened Mc Elhinney’s women’s shop in March 1973), and the traditional singing pubs of Ireland, Molly Mc’s will be decked out with vintage pieces and memorabilia relating to Molly and her legacy. The bar will feature cosy snugs and sheeben-style singing rooms – a nod to the illicit pubs of old Ireland that were places filled with music and storytelling – available to book so you can sing your fave tunes to your heart’s content. If you’d rather leave it to the pros, there’ll be plenty of live trad music to enjoy too.

You can’t have an Irish pub without Irish spirits, and there’ll be an extensive selection of these behind the bar. Molly Mc’s cocktail menu will include serves like the Irish Espresso Martini (made with Muff Vodka, Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, coffee and sugar), George’s Margarita (made with Mad March Hare Poitin, Bols triple sec, agave syrup and fresh lime) and Molly’s Sour (made with Leonor Palo Cortado Sherry, lemon, egg white and sugar).

In keeping with the long tradition of Thai food in London pubs, the likes of popcorn lemongrass chicken, sticky tamarind duck, and pad Thai will be coming out of the kitchen. If you like nothing more than a spicebag with your pints, fear not because there’ll also be Molly’s Spicebag on the menu too, made with spiced fries, crispy popcorn chicken and hot peppers.

Speaking about the opening, co-founder Ryan said, “As a group we have always strived to bring people together and create a welcoming space full of music, warmth and community. With Molly Mc’s, it’s more personal because of the connection to our wonderful Granny. We want to capture her generous spirit, her infectious laughter and her uplifting approach to life. She has a special place in our hearts as a family and we want to share those memories and values with the people that visit Molly Mc’s.”
