San The Fresh and Only’s caught our attention last year with their album Play It Strange . So we caught up with Shayde to see whats going down and whats coming up…Francisco’s jangly garage pop band
US: How did you get together?
SHAYDE: I guess we were lucky enough to find each other by working in the same record store. Tim and myself become close friends and finally turned our hang out time into recording time. It was the obvious next step to get Wymond and Kyle involved as they are both extremely talented.
US: Tell us about your sound and influences?
SHAYDE: Our sound is natural to who we are. The things we hear and see around us all day. Its the sum of those parts I suppose. We are just as inspired by living in San Francisco and our travels as we are the music we listen to. We are obviously a rock-n-roll band and definitely just as inspired by each other musically at this point.
US: Whats the first music you can remember?
SHAYDE: My first loves were Linda Ronstadt’s version of “Oooh Bab Baby” and “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I really love sentimental melodies. Music was a huge part of my life before elementary school came along and distracted me for a decade.
US: What are you up to at the moment?
SHAYDE: Currently preparing for a lot of touring. There’s a huge year ahead so I’m taking in San Francisco as much as I can. You really miss it when you’re away. I am also pig-sitting at the moment. Having a pig in your house can be pretty distracting.
US: Whats coming up for the rest of the year?
SHAYDE: Our record on Souterrain is coming out and we’ll be touring a lot as I mentioned. Hopefully there will be time for some recording in there as well. I also hope to find time to learn what sleep is again.
