Gets Me High
’ is the latest release from Dum Dum Girls revealing a slightly more sophisticated edge from the four tracks within. The follow on from their debut ‘I Will Be’ the Ep opens with the upbeat ‘Wrong Feels Right’ with drums simmering under bass and guitar lines before it pours over and drenches a jingle jangle melody of pure pop delight. Title track ‘He Gets Me High’ is amore dirty and psychedelic whirl wind ride. ‘Take Care of My Baby’ a ballad of 60’s girl group pop with front woman Dee Dee’s voice aching over strung out guitar lines. Ending with a cracking cover of The Smith’s ’There is a Light That Never Goes Out’ has made ‘He Gets Me High’ a constant hit on our noise box. As Dum Dum Girls excite the hell out of LondOnTheInside with their raw chain saw guitars noise of Jesus and Mary Chain meets 60‘s girl pop, leather jackets, red lipstick, tattoos and the whole mysteriousness we had to have a word with Dee Dee, the brains behind the Californian four piece.

US: Your new EP is very nice, with catchy songs and cool artwork, what made you decide to record an EP instead of a follow up full length record?

DEE DEE: Just a timing thing, really. Was dying to put out something new that reflected a more accurate depiction of the band.

US: You do a cover of The Smiths ‘There is a light that never goes out’ is that song particularly special to you, were any other covers up for debate?

DEE DEE: All sorts, but that one just turned out to be the perfect choice. It became my mantra.

US: Your new tour booklet featuring photos of what gets people high is out soon, so we have to ask, what gets Dee Dee high?

DEE DEE: Walking around NYC stoned, listening to music, reading books while drinking coffee, eating a good meal, running, writing and recording new songs, fresh coconuts, meeting new people who don’t suck, being in love.

US: We come across Brooklyn band Minks from your blog who we instantly fell in love with, have you came across anyone new who’s blown you away recently?

DEE DEE: Just them.

US: We are looking forward to seeing you at your forthcoming London shows, what do you like to do when your in London?

DEE DEE: Get tattoos, drink Guiness, buy leather jackets.
