What have you been up to lately?

JOHN: We’ve just finished recording our second full length for sub pop. We recorded and mixed it over 12 days with john agnello in charge. It was a great experience. We all had our hearts stolen by the studio dog. His name was / is ralphie. He had a cute little under bite.

US: Katy from vivian girls told us she likes hanging about in your apartment, who else is in there?

JOHN: Some strangers now. We all moved out. I think the vivian girls where the first and last people to stay there. When you have lot’s of bands staying at your house it starts to take it’s toll on the carpets. If we haven’t have moved out of there when we did, we would never have seen any of our deposit back.

US: You played an an art show in palma, mallorca not so long ago, what was that like?

JOHN: It was great. We played in the gallery. Part of the exhibition included 3 massive photos of our faces, which you couldn’t see unless you looked at them through the camera of your phone. It was pretty unsettling playing a show beneath portraits of our faces. I kinda felt sorry for the people watching…

US: What is your favourite drinking hole in Dalston?

JOHN: Bardens cafe. The owner is called umit. He ran the venue bardens boudoir, before it closed down. Now he has a cafe / bar above it. The man is a living legend. Absolute gentleman. The haggerston is also a good spot. Many nights start in bardens and end in the haggerston.

US: Record store day is a few weeks away, what will you be buying?

JOHN: Well me and kevin are both working in record shops that day. I’ll be at rough trade and kev will be at flashback. Record store day is so important. Kids need to get back into record shops and off their sega master systems and game gears….Shooting mario in the face isn’t as much fun as buying the nirvana hormoaning 12″. Trust me.
