the strength of this man’s music and taking to the stages of Glastonbury and V, as well as performing on ?Later With Jools Holland? and Radio One?s Live Lounge, it was a bout time we were able to throw some questions his way. So in among Cheerios we talk to the talented Josh Kumra and cover his record of the year, what will be a busy 2013 and the impression Tracy Chapman left on him growing up.

US: Where are you and what have you been up to today?

JK: I am sat at home eating a bowl of cheerios! I have been recording some demos all morning.

US: Tell us about your new single ‘Waiting For You’

JK: Waiting For You is a song about Love and Loss, and the different things that people depend on. The release date for it is 6th Jan 2013.

US: What music did you grow up listening to and how has that influenced you?

JK: I grew up listening to artists like Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman. The self entitled album by Tracy Chapman was the album that influenced me the most. It taught me that songs should be powerful even in their simplest form.

US: What does 2013 look like for you?

JK: 2013 Looks like it’s going to be very busy! I am releasing two singles early in the year and then into releasing the album in March. This means that there will be a lot of promo as well as a tour supporting the very talented Lianne La Havas.

US: What would be your record of the year and why?

JK: My record of the year would have to be Every Kingdom by Ben Howard its impossible to choose one song as the whole album is an amazing piece of work! Its set a bench mark!

US: he ‘Save the Children’ gig at Union Chapel is set to be pretty amazing, what are your thoughts on the line up, the occasion and the venue…

JK: Ah I’ve been looking forward to the ‘Save the Children’ gig for a long time! I think the Union Chapel is one of the best venues in London and I’m excited to be sharing the stage with some amazing artists!

Josh will be playing at the Union Chapel on December 14th
He will also be opening for Lianne La Havas on Feb 28th, March 1, 2, 4 2013
