It Io Echo and we’ve been digging their new tunes, there is nothing like a good bit of doom and gloom. So we got in there with a few questions, here’s how it went…has been a while since our last catch up with
US: Where are you and what have/are you up to today?
IE: We are in the studio in LA finishing tracks for our first full length album.
US: We first caught you back in what used to be The Drop in Stokie in 2010 not long after When Lillie’s Die came out, how have things changed for you since then?
IE: Well, we toured with The Drums and with TV on the Radio, signed a record deal, recorded an album, made some videos, started a festival and worked on a couple of film scores too- so we’ve basically been a lot busier since then.
US: How does the song writing process happen for you guys?
IE: It starts with an idea that one of us will bring to the table and from that point it is very collaborative between the two of us- we explore lots of different approaches for the same basic idea and see what we feel works best.
US: What do the leaders of Grunge Goth get up to when not making music?
IE: Freeze flowers in liquid nitrogen and then smash them
US: What would be your album of the year and why?
IE: We liked Frank Ocean’s album a lot. It surpassed expectations. The Gatekeeper album is good too.
US: What does 2013 look like for Io Echo
IE: We are releasing an EP in the UK in Feb and an album in the US in April, with some really cool videos to go along with them. We will be touring and playing some awesome festivals.
US: Any new music around right now that you are excited about?
IE: I like what I’ve heard of Bauuer.
Check out their new video for “Outsiders,” off their debut EP. Roll on the album eh!
