What have you been up to today?
Today I’m editing our Bullet Girl Christmas video (coming soon) and preparing for our show at KOKO this Friday. We’re headlining Club NME and it will be the biggest show we’ve ever played. I can’t WAIT.
How was your tour of America, we followed your antics through instagram…what were the highlights/insane/totally over the top American moments?
Our tour was so much fun. I’ve spent a lot of time in America these past couple of years and I feel like every time I go there it entices me to stay a little bit longer. Everybody is very open and hungry for new music. The pop fans I amassed when on tour with Charli XCX don’t care if you’re unsigned or on a big label, they just want to dance at your shows and sing the words back at you. Last time I was in New York we ended up seeing Stevie Wonder perform the whole of Songs In The Key of Life from start to finish and got to say hi to him afterwards. That’s definitely a career highlight.
Although one of my most surreal American moments was when we were driving through the desert from Texas to Phoenix in our rented RV (which was our tour bus, complete with a Golden Retriever painted on the outside) on the lookout for food, we drove for HOURS before we finally pulled up in the middle of nowhere and ended up buying homemade beef jerky from a beautiful blonde girl who was living in a trailer.
You said your new single Gold came about after watching ABBA videos and dreaming of Shirley Bassey…what happened in these dreams?
Me and HRH Bassey Bat Bats kicking back, sipping Vodka Martinis while ABBA were figuring out their new dance routines and arguing over who sings which harmony.
So, you’ve had a massive 2015, what’s the plan for 2016 looking like?
I’m putting my album out! BIG DEAL. It’s full of punchy wonky pop and I can’t wait to share it. Then I hope to play some European shows before starting festival season, and then head back to the U.S in the fall for another tour and possibly visit Mexico while I’m there. I’d also love to tour South America one day. There are a lot of Fever Boys and Bullet Girls in Brazil who have been waiting patiently for a show. I’d love to get over there and play for them.
