INTERVIEW: DARK BELLS

Dark Bells beguiling web of haunting yet melodic sounds excites us as you know, built on the bricks of post-punk with the atmosphere of an act you might have found on 4AD in 1983. Dark Bells are a band where each instrument of this three piece works with and around the others creating something unique that sets them aside from anyone else, innocent at times, truly captivating at others. Here we worded a few questions at them…

US: As a new band what are your aspirations, do you set your aims high or just think anything is a bonus with the the state of the music industry?

DB: We have a set of aims and have been very productive in the last 2 months particularly. Everything is a bonus but not anything and everything, the industry is tough although our crowd has grown very nicely as we have been playing around London and the more we play outside of London the feedback is just as good if not better. We just aim to keep it growing.

US: Tell us about your debut single and what the video will be like?

DB: We’re not certain about the video although we have spoken about it, we want to do something really interesting that really suits the song. I guess visually a nice experience as our songs don’t particularly tell stories although often have themes whether it’s in the music or lyrics which can then tie in nicely.

US: What does 2013 look like for you guys?

DB: 2013 should be a fun year year, we have plans for a set of singles throughout the year and we are very much looking forward to the release of our first single very early in the year. We are aiming to have the second single ready before the release of the first so the only trouble then will be deciding!

US: What has been your favourite record of the year and why?

DB: I think we would all have to say Tame Impala’s-Lonerism as a new release.

US: What bands are you listening to at the moment?

DB: We are listening to a bunch of different groups and with Summer gone it seemed like it was just whatever someone put on, at home though James Wilsey, Scott Walker, J.J Johnson, The KVB and Graffiti Island.

This lot play Birthday’s on Wednesday 28th Nov. Be there.
