Isso Prawn Crazy started as a 16-seat restaurant in Colombo in 2016, built around Sri Lankan prawns served multiple ways. Less than a decade later it has multiple sites across the country and a reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s biggest hospitality chains. Canary Wharf is their first international opening – in fact it’s the first restaurant outside Sri Lanka.
The format is similar to the Sri Lankan sites. You pick your prawn (Black Tiger, Flower, Giant Freshwater or Colossal Freshwater, sourced directly from fishing communities in northern Sri Lanka), then a sauce (Kithul garlic and chilli, hot butter, turmeric coconut curry, Jaffna curry, Negombo curry), then a side (ghee rice, curry leaf and garlic rice, or parotta). Starters include isso wade, coconut crumbed prawns or cuttlefish fritto and there’s a very good prawn kottu roti and a drinks list that runs from signature cocktails to heritage Colombo pours.
