Indonesian Restaurant Le Nusa Has Landed in London By Way of Jakarta

The London outpost follows restaurants in Jakarta and Paris

Recently opened on the Strand, Le Nusa (meaning ‘archipelago’) is taking inspo from Indonesia’s many regions and traditions but presenting the cuisine in a contemporary way. The interior design reflects this philosophy with Batik patterns, woven textiles and references to suntiang (golden headdresses) and gebyok (Javanese carved wooden partitions) throughout the space.

The menu, which blends French technique with Indonesian flavours, includes dishes like:

  • Udang Jeruk Bali – prawns, pomelo, lime and chilli
  • Bebek Sambal Andaliman – pan-seared duck breast, green chilli and andaliman pepper
  • Soto Betawi – coconut milk broth with ox tongue, tomato and melinjo crackers
  • Tongseng Kambing – lamb shank in a Javanese curry
  • Se’i Sapi – smoked brisket with sambal luat and basil
  • Deconstructed Kolak Pisang – caramelised banana, pandan, coconut milk and coconut ice cream

Le Nusa also has a pre-theatre offering – appropriate given its proximity to the West End theatres – where you can get two courses for £32 or three courses for £39. If you’re unfamiliar with Indonesian food, this is a great way to dip your toe in.
