New Acres in Wandsworth is now home to 36 entrepreneur-led businesses
At a time when high streets across the country are struggling, asset manager Legal & General has come up with an innovative solution – build neighbourhoods within their purpose built residential developments centred around independent businesses, helping community to take root.
As well as over 1000 one, two and three-bed purpose built rental apartments, 35% of which are reserved for affordable housing tenants (with designer furniture included) and killer communal amenities, like a 25m lido, roof terraces, a 24/7 gym and concierge, New Acres in Wandsworth now also boasts a line-up of 36 handpicked brands. Each of them has been given a “white box” unit to personalise to their specs and a year rent-free to properly bed into their new neighbourhood and stay for the long term.
The commercial line-up at New Acres has been specifically curated to offer convenience to residents, foster a sense of community, and encourage discovery of the wider area. That means plenty of places to eat, drink and shop, including brunch at Beringers, tacos at Loco Lime, fruit and veg at Avo Man, ice cream at Brass Monkey, coffee from Slow Mornings Coffee. Eight Hours, from Bône’s Nas Sharif, has also landed in the area – centred around the idea of a majlis, it serves Bône’s short rib (this time as a sandwich), a non-alcoholic menu and hosts games in the evenings.
With fitness studios like Réme Reformer Pilates, Yoga and Mindfulness at Sangha Studios and Social Recovery at Reco studios, to barbershops and hair salons, wellness is well covered. You’ll have somewhere to work at co-working space FOUNDRY, places offering childcare, pottery schools, recording studios and pet grooming, and venues like bookshop and bar Morocco Bound where you can get your culture fix.
Every Sunday, Duck Pond Market will pitch up with a line-up of creative and independent traders, with Forma, complete with eight makers and creators labs and 13 practitioner studios, offering further support for smaller businesses.
