ILLUMINOCITY IS BACK LIGHTING UP THE SQUARE MILE THIS WINTER

If there’s one plus point about the long, dark winter nights, it’s that they can be lit up with epic illuminated installations, and that’s exactly what’s happening in the Square Mile right now. Property developers Brookfield Properties have brought IlluminoCity Light Festival back to the area for another year and this time it features the UK premiere of artwork by Ukrainian/Canadian duo HYBYCOZO.

HYBYCOZO (short for The HyperspaceBypass Construction Zone) is the creative studio run by Yelena Filipchuk and Serge Beaulieu, and they’re known for their large geometric sculptures inspired by science, maths and natural phenomena, creating installations that appear solid during the day but cast patterns of light and shadow at night. A range of their work is on show at this year’s IlluminoCity; at Citypoint, you can see five 2-metre pieces made from powder-coated steel from their Polyedras Series, and over at Principal Place, there are five gold-plated steel artworks reaching up to 3.5 metres high from their Pyrite Field Series on display.

The IlluminoCity exhibition follows Brookfield Properties’ Art of the Workplace Report in partnership with The School of Life, which showed that art in the workplace has a positive impact on employee wellbeing, encouraging creativity and promoting a sense of community. These installations from HYBYCOZO are giving everyone who passes through the Square Mile a chance to connect with the public space and think creatively about their environments, so be sure to stop by the City and check them out. There’s also a free colouring book inspired by the exhibition you can download from the IlluminoCity website for kids and adults alike.
