“Alot of geezers my age don’t work out of their comfort zone anymore because once you become legendary you don’t want people challenging you.” If ever you needed proof age is just a number this is it. At 68, Iggy Pop announces tour in line with forthcoming album ‘Post Pop Depression’. Showcasing the single ‘Break in to your Heart’ live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, an unsuspecting studio audience were given the news. Josh Homme, co-creator and bandleader and his Queens of the Stone Age’ pal Dean Fertita will form the make-up of musicians for the Euro tour along with the Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.
A short week after the release of ‘Break in to your Heart’ follows ‘Gardenia’, the second track from the anticipated album. Although familiar and recognisable in sound, the new music offers a dose of fresh influence that is easily picked up.
This will be Iggy’s 17th album in the making, not to mention his creations with The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power tallying up to a total of 22 solid works of art. In the midst of a subdued past few weeks the album will pay homage to late friend Bowie and can certainly teach the new representatives of pop a few old tricks.
