HOW TO THROW A BIRTHDAY PARTY IN ISOLATION

We really feel for all you winter babies who have to celebrate your birthday in lockdown rather than going out for a slap-up meal, throwing some shapes in a club or having a massive piss-up literally anywhere that isn’t your house. You may be away from most of your family and friends and you may have to craft some makeshift decorations out of bits destined for the recycling, but thanks to the twin wonders of technology and delivery services, you can still make it a birthday to remember.
Birthday Breakfast

Put together a great breakfast spread by getting fry-ups inside loaves of bread from Barge House and DIY bacon butty kits from Le Swine delivered. The lockdown has seemingly made us all turn to booze but it’s doubly acceptable to start drinking early if it’s your birthday.

Presents

For those not able to join in the party in person, you can send a whole bunch of stuff to the birthday household. Everyone loves a birthday balloon and Party On is delivering. The lucky recipient can then play a fun new lockdown game where they see how long it stays inflated for. Send a card via Thortful or Scribbler and a big bunch of very cool flowers from Grace & Thorn, and get them a make-your-own kit for a present to keep them busy until their next birthday.

Cake

It’s 100% not a birthday if there’s no cake. You could make one, which would also double up as a way to pass the time; you could pick up a Colin the Caterpillar on your next shopping outing (only if you live local to an M&S store, you know the rules); or you could get a cake from Lola’s Cupcakes or a batch of brownies from Bad Brownie dropped at your door. If you really want to go all out, you could order a bespoke beauty from Adams Cakes – he’s done everything from a bowl of ramen to the Sgt. Pepper album cover in cake.

Dinner & Drinks

You can’t go out to a restaurant or a bar but you can bring them to you. Whether you want a meal that’s ready to eat right away or you’re happy to do a little bit of legwork in the kitchen, you can still have a special birthday meal. Whip up a feast for the birthday boy or girl with one of these celebratory DIY kits or have an actual chef who knows what they’re doing take care of it with one of these deliveries. If you want wine with your meal or you’d rather hit the cocktails, you can get those delivered too.
