of The Savoy and stayed in El Palace Barcelona we’ve had a thing for grande dame hotels. Les Trois Rois is no different, located in Basel on the banks of the Rhine, this five-star hotel is proud to call itself one of the oldest city hotels in the world.

Since its opening back in 1641 the hotel has seen many famous guests pass through its doors including Hans Christian Anderson, Napolean and Picasso. The interiors have been fully restored however the glamour and charm of days gone by is still felt throughout the property.

The hotel has 101 rooms and suites all of which are individually furnished with antique furniture, works of art and everything the modern day celebrity may need including Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems, Internet access and minibar with free soft drinks. 

The hotel features three restaurants including the two Michelin star Cheval Blanc and a bar serving one of the best afternoon teas in the city. Room rates start from £217 per night and we think it’s worth every penny!
