HONNE: THE SONG THAT…

honne1

Electronic duo HONNE from London have been really busy this year, with their debut album ‘Warm on a Cold Night’ proving the pair to be one of the UK’s most hip acts at the moment. So, of course, we had to ask them THE SONG THAT…

…Got me into music…

MJ was my first music obsession and the first proper gig I went to. I must have been about 8 or 9 and it was at Wembley Stadium and it completely blew my mind. This track sounds just as huge now as it did back then.

Reminds me of my favourite festival…

I have gone to Glastonbury for the last 10 years and one of the biggest highlights for me was seeing Blur perform this song, and being there with all my mates singing along.

I love this year so far…

‘Angels’ by Chance The Rapper. The first time I heard this I was so taken aback. It’s so upbeat and feels really happy, almost like they were smiling whilst recording the vocals in the studio.

I want played at my funeral…

Maybe something like ‘Uptight (Everything’s Alright)’ by Stevie Wonder. I wouldn’t want to leave the world with mournful music. Better to celebrate a life well spent with something cheerful.

I would play in a set to impress…

This depends on who you’re trying to impress, of course. ‘Let’s Stay Together’ by Al Green has a real charm about it and feels sincere, so maybe that would be a good place to start.

Always gets me up and dancing…

‘Makoto’ by Yuki Ame. It’s a re-work of a track called ‘Love Was Really Gone’ by Makoto Matsushita. This track has such a great feel and groove. We often drop it in our DJ sets. It’s a bit of a gem.

Sums me up…

Anderson Paak’s ‘Am I Wrong’. It’s energetic and upbeat. Musically, it kind of sums up some of the things we look for in music too – a great and unique voice, great production and great grooves.
