Co-founders Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich are closing one spot and transforming another
Over the past 14 years, Sarit and Itamar have helped shape the Middle Eastern food scene in the city with their Honey & Co. restaurant group. This year, they’re making some big changes by closing their deli Honey & Spice on Warren Street at the end of March and turning their Honey & Smoke grill restaurant into something new. The main Honey & Co. restaurant, the Honey & Co. Daily deli and cafe and the Honey & Co. Studio are all staying as is.
This April, Honey & Co. Great Portland, a wine bar, deli and dining room, will open on the Honey & Smoke site. Running as a deli by day, it’ll flip into a wine bar by night, and will be somewhere you can pop in for a quick bite, a glass of wine, or a leisurely dinner. The new concept has been built around the wine programme, put together with Keeling Andrew, which features bottles from Greece, Palestine, Lebanon, Israel, Georgia, Italy, France and California.
The food menu has been designed to allow grazing and sharing, with dishes including:
- baba ganoush with crispy pitta
- cheesy mizithra filo cigars with honey drizzle
- anchovies on aubergine agrodolce crostini
- tuna crudo with grated tomato and tahini
- crispy pork with oregano and candied lemon
- lamb arayes with a yogurt dip
- fried artichoke with garlic, parsley and lemon
- chicken liver skewers with parsley, cumin and garlic gremolata
- whole charred prawns with preserved lemon and fermented chilli relish
- Greek-style lamb chops
- crispy cauliflower rice with amba, flaked almonds and pickled chillies
- honey and feta cheesecake
- Dubai chocolate mousse
Speaking about Honey & Co. Great Portland, co-founder Sarit said: “When we told our accountant what we were planning with Honey & Smoke, he couldn’t understand why we’d walk away from something so successful. But we’ve never been driven by playing it safe. We want to bring something that excites us, that excites our guests, that reflects who we are right now. Not 10 years ago. Now. This is Honey & Co. as it is now. Fourteen years of feeding people, of understanding what makes a room feel alive, what makes guests want to stay. It is rooted in the food and wine we love most and we cannot wait to share it.”
