Denim Records have spied something special in sisters Annie and Georgie Hockeysmith and have adeptly delivered them to us in the form of a brand new EP accompanied by a visually intensive, high octane video directed by designer and photographer Davy Evans, the man behind the artwork for the xx’s ‘Coexist’ album and creator of their oil-on-water videos.

The EP, ‘But Blood’ clearly shows the girls love their synth but the duo have layered gritty guitar riffs over a moody sub-bass line which gives the track a raw edgy darkness. The abstract and somewhat psychedelic video compounds the fact that there is certainly nothing saccharine about this sister act.

The Hockeysmith girls hail from the West Country, where they write and record their music, resulting in their debut AA side single ‘Now I Want To / Let’s Bang’ being released under their own label, Backabelly towards the end of last year. This garnered the girls some well-deserved attention and this new track firmly places them on a par with the likes of Warpaint and My Bloody Valentine. The mystery and excitement surrounding the enigmatic girls is growing fervently and their audience is only set to swell if they continue to release tracks as dynamic as ‘But Blood’.
