Forty Hall Community Vineyard needs help to upgrade its equipment and resources so it can stay up and running

Forty Hall Community Vineyard, one of our LOTI Heroes, is the only commercial scale vineyard in London since the Middle Ages but sadly its future is in doubt. The vineyard has managed to survive the pandemic and three consecutive years of poor harvests, with bad weather and mildew impacting the crop, but another one will likely force it to close.

The team needs to upgrade its equipment to help protect the vines, including getting a narrow vineyard tractor to be able to regularly apply organic sprays to strengthen the health of the vines and protect them from disease. Not only does the vineyard produce award-winning, certified organic wines, it also runs an ecotherapy project, using income from the sales of wine to provide opportunities for the local community (particularly those with mental health issues) to work in the vineyard, helping to improve their mental and physical health and provide social connection – it really would be a huge loss if it had to close. Forty Hall is running a crowdfunding campaign to raise the money it needs to secure its future, and you can help out by donating here.
