Harts Group is swapping one Spanish concept in Borough Yards for another, and it’s another entry in what’s shaping up to be the year of the restaurant flip. Los Primos, a new cervecería inspired by the drop-in bars found across Spain, opens on Dirty Lane this November, taking over the site currently occupied by Harts Group’s own Parrillan, which closes from Monday 28th September to make way for it. The all-day space is walk-in only, running from churros and coffee at 11am through to bocadillos and snacks for lunch, and beer, wine and tapas into the night.
The name means “cousins” in Spanish, a nod to the four grandchildren of the late Mallorca-based artist Vladimir Daskaloff who now run Harts Group: brothers Sam, James and Eddie Hart, and cousin Anna Watkins. Having spent summers together in Mallorca and later lived in Madrid and Barcelona, the family built Los Primos as a tribute to Spain’s drop-in eating and drinking culture. Guests arrive through an open front with 1950s signage and indoor-outdoor counter seating, heading in to a large, stainless steel-topped bar where morning cañas are poured from vintage taps and churros are dunked in chocolate sauce.
The menu runs from simple snacks, kikos, fuet, boquerones and olives, to cold tapas like gildas and ensaladilla rusa displayed in glass cabinets on the counter. Bocadillos come filled with tortilla, lomo de cerdo, chorizo or egg, while fried and hot tapas span crispy pigs’ ears, a txistorra-stuffed bomba with brava sauce and aioli, jamón croquetas, chorizo in cider and slow-cooked albondigas. Flan closes things out, best paired with a glass of vermut or a gin and tonic nightcap. The menu has been developed with Patricia Roig, Global Culinary Director of Barrafina, and Antonio González Milla, Group Executive Chef of Barrafina UK.
