Today
is International Chardonnay Day and what better way to celebrate a Friday night. For 3 days only Hardys 1853 Club has landed in London for the Bank Holiday weekend. The pop-up tasting experience is to celebrate the nation’s rediscovery of Chardonnay, and we had the pleasure of heading down yesterday to check the place out…and boy is it swanky for a 3 day affair.Hardys have teamed up with Alex James, award-winning cheese producer and he of Blur fame, to curate a selection of cheeses which compliment the Chardonnay perfectly. We were a little shocked too – pairing cheese with white wine? Next time your thinking of hosting a party…forget about the red!
We took part in a Chardonnay tasting session with wine expert, The Wine Bird and all our previous perceptions of the humble grape were turned upside down! The intimate tasting room offers guests a totally unique experience which is light-hearted so if you’re no wine buff, you won’t get embarrassed.
With 18% of people drinking more Chardonnay than they were just one year ago, now is the time to jump on the barrel before prices start to rocket. Alex James said, “It was a wonderful celebration of two of my favourite things – wine and cheese. I was always a fan of red wine with cheese, but all the Hardys whites tonight worked very nicely – a great way to enjoy the chardonnay revival.”
Tickets can be booked for £12.50 which includes a glass of sparkling Chardonnay, 30 mins tasting 3 Chardonnays with deliciously selected cheeses and a token to redeem at the bar. It sounds like a perfect Bank Holiday weekend to us!
