all about affordable steak at the moment, what with Flat Iron opening another branch in Shoreditch, and new steak and liquor bar Hanger SW6 is bringing a piece of that action to Fulham Broadway.

In the bright and airy upstairs restaurant, the menu is simple and stripped back, with the hanger steak in the starring role. Supplied by Hixon’s of Smithfield, a charcoal grilled steak comes in at £11 per person or in a sandwich with sticky onions, mustard and watercress for £9. A meaty, flavourful, quality piece of steak that’s been properly cooked and a side order of triple-cooked chips, you can’t really ask for much more than that. With selection of small plates, like scallop ceviche and salt beef croquettes, and desserts including a chocolate orange brownie and sundae spilt, also all reasonably priced, you won’t leave Hanger SW6 feeling hungry or short-changed.

Downstairs is where the liquor part comes in, and as the very instagrammable neon sign suggests, the focus is on cocktails, with old-fashioned drinks like the rum and ginger Perfect Storm and the gin-based Chelsea Sidecar on offer. There’s even a Sipsmith distiller on the bar, so look out for the changing infusions. Whether you’re after a solid steak or stiff drink, Hanger SW6 is the neighbourhood joint for you.
