Hacha Is Opening an Agaveria in Bermondsey

As one bar shuts, another one opens

After announcing that they would be shuttering the Brixton Village outpost of Hacha, it appears that Deano Moncrieffe and Emma Murphy aren’t going to be down to one location for too long as they’re opening a new bar in Bermondsey, and just in time for National Margarita Day.

Since opening in Dalston in 2019, Hacha has become one of the leading agave bars in the world, regularly featuring in the Top 100 Bars in the World and the World’s 50 Best Discovery List, with Deano’s innovative Mirror Margarita becoming the first ever signature cocktail from a UK bar to be listed in a national supermarket.

All of that expertise will be on show at Hacha Bermondsey, which is taking over the old Bermondsey Larder site inside the Bermonds Locke aparthotel. The bar, which boasts almost 100 covers inside and 40 more on the terrace, will feature a reimagined agave list and a virtual back bar featuring digital tasting notes and brand info recorded by Deano. There’ll be complimentary samples of the Agave Spirit of the Week to entice you into exploring the range of bottles on offer.

Deano has created some new signature serves for the bar, which can be made with a base of tequila or mezcal, such as the Bermondsey Batanga (tequila or mezcal, spiced purple carrot cordial, calamansi, Coke Zero, Tobala mezcal float and Palo Santo smoked salt) and the Twenty (Marigold-infused tequila or mezcal, banana, white port, Botivo and wild pine forest soda). There’ll also be agave aperitifs on offer post-work and pre-dinner.

Speaking of dinner, Mexican street food concept Nopalito (who were in the kitchen at the Brixton bar) will be moving to the new bar to serve up tacos to go with the cocktails. Hacha will also be welcoming more of the city’s restaurants with its seasonal partnerships, so watch this space to see who’s first up.
