The man behind THOSE colourful homeware creations is taking over the Corner Shop, fish and chips bowl included
Gustaf Westman is the Stockholm designer whose wonky, slightly cartoonish homeware has spent the last few years working its way across your Instagram feed. The Chunky Cup, the curvy mirrors, the Blob sofa that everyone you know seems to want: it’s all his, and he’s kicked off a whole high-street wave of copycat bubble plates while he’s at it. Last winter brought his first proper collaboration with another brand, a 12-piece tableware range for IKEA’s VINTERFINT collection that finally put his look within reach of people without a spare grand or two to spend. From Monday 29 June he’s taking over the Corner Shop at Selfridges for a month, ditching the usual shop layout for a run of furnished rooms you walk through, each set up as a different kind of home, from a fan room to a living room.
For the pop-up he’s created a special London edit. There’s a fish and chips bowl, a tea strainer built to sit on top of the original Chunky Cup and sold only at Selfridges, and the Blob sofa and daybed redone in a new tartan. It all runs as part of Selfridges’ summer Dream On programme, a season of pop-ups and installations built around the idea of letting your imagination off the leash.
