GREGGS HAS OPENED AN OUTLET SHOP IN LONDON WHERE YOU CAN GET BARGAIN BAKES

Not content with bringing us Festive Bakes, sausage rolls, and epic Christmas jumpers, Greggs is also doing its bit to tackle food waste and lend a helping hand during the cost-of-living crisis by opening an outlet shop in Newham. Greggs Outlet shops sell unsold, day-old food at a reduced price, sometimes as much as 75% off, to prevent it from ending up in the bin and to provide cheaper food for those who need it most.

The Greggs Outlet initiative was started in 1972 and the Cundy Road site in London is the 30th one the brand has opened in the UK, with a target of 50 set for 2025. In 2021, 800 tonnes of food was passed onto Greggs Outlet shops, allowing the business to redistribute 28% of all unsold food, an increase from 12% in 2018, with Greggs also working with food-saving app Too Good To Go to divert even more products from going to waste. A share of the profits from each Outlet shop is donated to The Greggs Foundation, which supports various local community organisations, and in 2021, Greggs raised £370,000 for charity through this scheme. So not only is buying a bargain bake friendlier on your wallet, it’s a doing a good deed at the same time.
