Giles
Deacon, the London Fashion Week favourite is about to turn his design prowess to the world of…trainers. Giles for Superga is a fierce, limited edition collection which is launching this summer 2013. This will be the Italian brands 3rd design collaboration, previously the 101 year old was given a fresh injection from the crazy House of Holland and The Row, the luxury label from the Olsen twins, who were once Superga’s Creative Directors.Superga have always had a certain underground coolness about them. Alexa Chung is often seen in a pair and we imagine she’ll be rocking Deacons creations, probably because she was appointed Creative Director for Superga this year…Brains and beauty?! We’d hate her if she wasn’t such a babe!!
With Alexa’s direction, the collection reflects Deacons runway show, adding some super lux to the laid back trainers. The 3 styles – creeper, classic Superga and high top, feature pony and snake skin as well as heavily embellished pieces. These are certainly not for the gym.
Superga are in save hands with Deacon on board. He is a super collaborator, which has seen him design collections for Nine West, New Look, Sky Ride, and even for Minnie Mouse herself. Not to mention a limited edition washing machine for LG, and a few rugs for The Rug Company. A man of many talents.
The British-born designer is renowned for his pop culture-themed influences and understated sex appeal. Deacons approach to the collaboration was simple “I like the idea of design for everyone. Whatever the price, a thing should be well designed…It’s like making your references from a good punk band to Mahler. There’s no reason you can’t listen to both”.
This double Brit hit and Italian collaboration is a must have for summer in London, wear them with distressed shorts, a simple tee and a cider. Prices start from £120 and are only available at Dover Street Market, London. They are also available in Milan and Paris if you fancy the trip.
