Getting the Chop at Neil Moodie Studio

Hair salons in east London are ten a penny, so it can be hard to decide on which one to visit

How can you know if they are any good when investing in a new cut? Well the way we differentiate them is by looking at their back story, and boy does Neil Moodie have one hell of a cool story.

Neil comes from the fashion industry, starting out in the world of fashion magazines in 1993 when working with iconic photographer Corinne Day on a shoot for The Face magazine. If you’re not familiar with Corrine, she was responsible for some of the most famous Kate Moss shoots, including her first ever Vogue cover, and is credited with playing a big role in Moss’ rise to stardom. Neil’s work has graced over 50 Vogue covers and he counts Gemma Chan, Cara Delevingne and Sonam Kapoor as clients. With creds like this it’s safe to say Neil Moodie Studio is a good bet for anyone wanting to spruce up their ‘do.

Located in Spitalfields Market, the cute salon has a homely, cosy feel. We visited for a cut, blow dry and Olaplex steam treatment. The steam treatment is exactly that, a treatment applied to the hair where steam is used to open the cuticles. This was done first and takes around 15 minutes. Following the steam the stylist then set to work on our mop, correcting a fringe that had fallen out of fashion and some serious holiday split ends. A blow dry later and we were looking much slicker than the state we’d arrived in. We’re also happy to report the treatment has lasted four weeks so far – which is pretty good going.
