Taken over by Rex and Cat Rosales in 2022, The Wine Tasting Shop in Balham is fast becoming the go-to spot for vino in SW12. The bar, bottle shop and tasting room won a Decanter award for Best London Neighbourhood Wine Shop last year and has recently launched a new online wine store. The pair opened the venue with the aims of creating a welcoming atmosphere where people could learn more about wine and pairings with food, and making it easier younger wine drinkers to explore new styles.
The wines on offer at The Wine Tasting Shop change regularly, with old world bottles mixed in with wines from regions like Romania, Canada, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia and Georgia. There’s a strong by-the-glass selection, meaning you can pop in for a quick drink al fresco, or you can settle in for the evening with a bottle and some cheese and charcuterie sharing boards. If you want to dive deeper into a particular style or region, tasting sessions run weekly – there’s even a bring-you-own-baby one designed for local parents.
