The venue, founded by musician and broadcaster YolanDa Brown OBE, has a new permanent location
After holding a residency at The Gantry hotel in Stratford, Soul Mama has made the move over to Islington. The 150-cover site (complete with a terrace) boasts views over Chapel Market, and runs as a restaurant by day and a live music venue by night.
The music programme spans a range of genres, including jazz, soul, gospel and reggae, with the likes of Omar, Susan Carol, Mica Paris, Etana, Citrus Sun, Avery*Sunshine, Najee, Brit Funk Association, Ray Gelato & the Giants and Syd Lawrence Orchestra taking to the purple and gold stage. As well as regular live performances, Soul Mama is hosting its famous Motown, gospel and Afrobeats brunches, where dancing is fully encouraged.
The food is just as big a part of Soul Mama as the music. The menu draws influence from Africa, South America and the Caribbean, with dishes like:
- braised lam ‘soul arepa’
- jerk wing pit with rum BBQ and scotch bonnet & mango sauces
- Argentinian smoked gaucho jerk chicken
- thyme-infused braised lamb neck
- coconut curry chicken with rice and peas
You can pair all of that with the signature Coconut Mama cocktail (coconut rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, mango purée and coconut syrup), or a range of classic serves and wines.

Pre-bookings are essential. This offer doesn’t apply to walk-ins.
Deposits: A £15 per person deposit is required to secure all bookings. On non-show days, this amount will be deducted from the final bill. On live show days, the £15 per person is allocated to the performing artist.
Capacity & Cancellations: If a ticketed event reaches 90% capacity, the company reserves the right to cancel restaurant-only bookings within 48 hours of the reservation.
Cancellations & No-Shows: Cancellations made less than three days prior to the booking, as well as no-shows, will result in forfeiting the full deposit.
