The newest Middle Eastern spot in Marylebone
Step inside Noreen and you really do feel a world away from St Christopher’s Place. The restaurant, inspired by the Arabian Peninsula and the Levant, has a sunken main dining room and bar decked out with tadelakt curved walls, palm weaving, bone inlay tables, glazed tiles, clay and silk rugs.
Medhi Hani (ex-Harrods and The Dorchester) has created a menu of mezzes, flatbreads, grills, and slow-cooked dishes that draws on his Lebanese and Syrian heritage as well as traditional flavours from across the region, such as:
- badenjan aubergine pureé with miso roasted aubergine and walnuts
- whipped feta with chilli, chives and spiced crisps
- sea bass crudo with lime achar
- lamb flatbread with slow-cooked lamb shoulder and mehyawa anchovy sauce
- kubbe burghul dumplings with seasonal mushrooms
- Moghrabieh Levantine pasta pearls with short rib, shallot, bone marrow and spinach
- garlic & thyme Tawook chicken with chilli-cumin crisp, toum and coriander bakhsam
- grilled bone-in ribeye with roasting jus and za’atar chimichurri
- sea bream, butterflied “masgouf” style, grilled with harissa butter lemon sauce
- fresh labneh ice cream with Yemeni honey, za’atar olive oil and walnuts
- kunafa with akkawi cheese, pistachio cremeux, mistika ice cream and hibiscus & orange blossom syrup
There’s a wine list featuring bottles from producers across Lebanon and the Eastern Med, with Mr Lyan Studio collaborating with Noreen on the cocktail menu. Arak features heavily, alongside other Middle Eastern ingredients like hibiscus, black lime and tahini, with serves including the Arabian Coffee & Salep Martini (with vodka, date molasses, salep and spice) and the Black Lime & Mango Sharbat (with white rum, black lime, mango cordial and Campari).
