After running successful stalls at Spitalfields Market, Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle, and Market Place Vauxhall, twin sisters Vasanthini and Dharshini Perumal have just their Sri Lankan kitchen Karapincha permanent, opening a bricks-and-mortar site in Canary Wharf. Open in the tube station, the latest Karapincha cafe has space for ten diners inside as well as those getting takeaway orders and it’s also the first site in the group to offer breakfast dishes like ham & cheese stuffed roti, French toast and Ceylon tea.
The Karapincha signature lunch and dinner bowls including veggie and chicken kothu roti, devilled chicken & fried rice, and build-your-own curry (with options like basmati rice, paratha, mum’s chicken, slow-cooked beef, aubergine moju and pickled pineapple) are available at four locations, and everything, from the spice blends to the roti, is homemade. Not only do the sisters use recipes passed down from their mum, they hire people who are home cooks, rather than chefs, to work in the Karapincha kitchens, so you really are getting proper home-cooked Sri Lankan food.
