New Mediterranean bistro Joan is opening in Shoreditch, headed up by former Caravan Fitzrovia head chef Niko Kontogiannatos. The restaurant and bar will take inspo from both his native Greece and the kind of food he was cooking up at Caravan, with everything from the breads to the ice creams being made in-house.
That means you can expect dishes like salmon tartar with avocado sorbet & squid ink tuile; roast cauliflower with spiced cumin yoghurt & harissa; slow cooked lamb shoulder with sourdough flatbread & sweet pepper sauce; pan fried cod with ‘nduja & cannellini bean stew; and orange pie with white chocolate cream & cripsy filo, alongside local beers, European wines and classic cocktails.
Niko is also doing weekend brunch at Joan, serving up the likes of sesame bread with kale, cottage cream, hot smoked salmon & horseradish; pancakes with milk chocolate cream, bananas & honeycomb; and soft chocolate cookie with vanilla marscapone & caramel sauce. Yes cookies for breakfast are thing now.
