Gura Gura founder Gobind Chona is opening a new Indian spot on Shaftesbury Avenue
Meaning ‘energy’ in Hindi, the two-floor, 105 cover Oorja will showcase casual North Indian comfort food dishes across its all-day menus. That includes a breakfast offering so you’ll be able to start your day with the likes of egg burji on toast; vegan dalia porridge with coconut cream and berries; and Oorja sawera kebab platter, with chicken tikka, lamb kebab, saffron rice, grilled tomato and fried egg.
If you’re heading to Oorja later in the day, here’s what you can expect to find on the menu:
- BBQ butterfly chicken with mint chutney and onion salad
- Railway lamb curry
- green mustard & corn roti
- chickpeas masala with dry mango, pomegranate and onion gravy
- gulab jamun brûlée
Oorja also has a Chef’s Choice option where you can get a unique dish curated just for you by the kitchen if there’s something you fancy that’s not listed. On Sundays, the restaurant will be doing an Indian spin on a Sunday roast, with tandoori spiced roast beef, Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, mixed veggies and garam masala beef gravy.
At the downstairs bar, the cocktail menu celebrates ingredients that reference the roots, stems and fruits of Indian culture through serves like Basil-Indian Masala-Mangosteen and the Tequila-Vetiver-Indian Spices-Lime Sherbet.
