The pizzeria, cocktail bar and art space is the brainchild of Napoli-born siblings Arianna and Giovanni Izzo
Listen up pizza fans because a brand new pizza restaurant is coming to Hackney Wick this month and you could get in there to try it before anyone else. Unlock is the Izzo siblings’ first London restaurant and it’ll showcase Neapolitan pizzas made with a 30-hour dough for a proper light and airy base. Executive Chef Arianna will be doing classics like a Margherita, topped with fior di latte, pacchetelle and fresh basil, as well as artisanal pizzas like truffle cream, mortadella, burrata, hazelnut crumbs, and fresh basil; gorgonzola lombardo, provola d’Agerola, Parmigiano Reggiano, crocchè, shaved truffle, black pepper and rosemary; and aubergine cream with nduja calabrese, provola d’Agerola, fried basil and pacchetelle tomatoes.
There’ll be a small selection of starters, such as crocchè and meatballs with fries and cheddar sauce, and if you can’t decide which pizza toppings to go for, you can order a set menu that includes a slice of each artisanal pizza paired with a cocktail. The list, also available at the striking 10-metre concrete bar, features twists on classic serves, including an Aperol spritz made with white vermouth, honey and grapefruit juice, and a negroni with strawberry juice and basil. And vino fans will have bottles from small wineries in Campania and fizz from northern Italy to choose from.
That concrete bar won’t be the only interesting bit of interior design at Unlock. The restaurant is collaborating with Napoli-based Galleria Arti Decorative Alessandro Malgieri on the furniture, which’ll include vintage chairs from the 60s and 70s. As well as two custom chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the artwork on the walls, a mix of both Italian and Hackney-based artists will rotate every two months.
