The team behind Hot Stone (one of our fave Japanese restaurants in town) is opening a brand new concept centred around modern Japanese cookery and omakase-style boxes in Fitzrovia. Kibako, named after the signature boxes it’ll be serving, is taking the place of Hot Stone’s fine dining spot RAI (which’ll be moving to a new home) and will feature lots of traditional wooden panelling and a sushi bar where you can watch the chefs in action.

Each kibako box will feature between six and twelve sushi and sashimi dishes chosen by the chef, such as seared butterfish with red jalapeno sauce, rock shrimp tempura, and hand dived scallop with plum, forming the first part of Kibako’s set menu offering. You’ll then be able to follow up your box with a main dish, like grilled mackerel with spicy daikon, 48-hour marinated black cod with sweet rice miso, and grilled aubergine with miso & truffle, and finish off with a dessert.

There’s also an a la carte menu that you can order from, including sushi, sashimi, maki, carpaccio, seafood donburi and A5 Kagoshima Wagyu served with rice, miso soup and Japanese pickles, if there’s something else that catches your eye.
