Noughties fave Gilgamesh has returned to the London dining scene
A Camden hotspot back in the late aughts, Gilgamesh was famous for its OTT Babylonian-themed interiors, including its own escalator entrance and a retractable roof, and its celeb clientele. Now the restaurant is unexpectedly back on the scene, this time in Covent Garden, and it’s just as opulent as the original. The three-floor, 160-cover space is filled with hand-carved bronze and wood plus lots of copper and gold accents, and no doubt people are still taking photos inside, only this time they’ll end up on Instagram.
The menu is similar to what was served over in Camden too, with dishes featuring Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian flavours. As well as sushi, sashimi and nigiri, you can tuck into the likes of:
- grilled Dover sole with basil
- Japanese pizza with tuna truffle mizuma
- crispy duck, watermelon and cashew nut salad
- Black Angus ribeye
- lamb chops
- aubergine miso
