Tom Cenci, who was last cooking at Stoney Street by 26 Grains in Borough Market, is teaming up with Guy Ivesha, founder of Maslow’s (which runs Mortimer House and Mortimer House Kitchen) to open Nessa in Soho this March. Inspired by Vanessa Bell and other creatives of the Bohemian movement, the 98-cover restaurant will be on the ground floor of the new 1 Warwick members’ house, itself taking up residence in a renovated 1910 neo-baroque building. The interiors will reference Edwardian architecture, with a horseshoe counter, lounge seating and mid-century modern vintage furniture in the bar and lots of brushed oak, marble fixtures and banquette seating in the dining room.
Tom will be cooking a seasonal modern British menu that also incorporates his love for global flavours, with dishes such as cheese & onion croquettes with grape husk mustard, steak tartare with beef fat pangrattato & raw egg, and roly-poly with custard, plus a selection of snacks and small plates on at the bar.
The brunch offering sounds just as good, we’re talking the likes of:
- English muffin with sausage patty, fried egg & cheese
- Rib of grass-fed beef on charred sourdough with beef gravy
- Banana French toast with caramelised banana & maple pecans
- Crab benedict with poached eggs, crumpet & béarnaise sauce
- Toasted crumpet & Marmite butter
- Egg ‘n’ chips – St. Ewes with beef dripping chips
- Homemade cereals with milk
And with cocktails showcasing UK-based producers, like the Ol’ China Plate (East London Liquor Company Rye Whisky, Sacred dry vermouth, Sipello & Campari), the Randy Hiball (Seven Tails brandy, rosemary tonic & port) and the Pa-low-ma (Pentire seaward, cranberry, grapefruit soda, spice syrup & sea salt), it sounds like the perfect way to start the day.
