If you’re a fan of British food and French wine, then you need to know about new Farringdon restaurant Origin City. Opened by the same family team behind wine bar and shop 56 West Smithfield, Origin City is an expression of their love for British fine dining, Scottish produce and the Provençal way of life, with a menu that showcases pasture-to-plate and nose-to-tail dining.

All of the meat used at Origin City, including many heritage breeds, comes from the owners’ organic farm in Argyll in Scotland; the seafood is from Loch Fyne Oysters; and the majority of the wine comes from their organic vineyard Château De La Cômbe in Provence, so it really is a family affair. All the meat is butchered in-house and Executive Chef Graham Chatham (ex-Rules and The Langham) and the kitchen team make their own charcuterie and sausages, alongside dishes like:

  • Black Angus steak tartare
  • Devilled ox tongue
  • Tamworth pork tonnato
  • Aged black pig cutlet with savoy cabbage & sauce charcutière
  • Halibut anchoïade
  • Grilled Texel lamb with sweetbread, merguez & salsa verde

Much like the menu, the space itself is elegant and simple, with secluded booths, white-tableclothed long sharing tables, an open kitchen at the back so you can see chefs at work manning the grill, and a terrace for an aperitif or two – when the weather plays ball of course.
